Croydon

Who do we help?

The Croydon Young Peoples Service offers support and accommodation to young people who are either leaving care or who are homeless within the Croydon area.

This scheme supports vulnerable young people between the ages of 16 and 25 years who are experiencing housing need. The service supports people to develop and improve their ability to live independently.

About the scheme

Within the Croydon Young Peoples Service we have one scheme, Macclesfield Road and support a total of 7 people at any one time with residents staying for up to two years. At the end of the two years residents are supported to make the move into independent accommodation in the local area. They can continue to receive support from social services to help this transition.
Macclesfield Road was built in 2007 and consists of 7 self contained studios with a support tenant who lives on site and who is able to offer support out of normal office hours.

Each resident is assigned a support worker who will meet with service users regularly; how often will depend on the individuals needs. This is agreed at the beginning of the service and regularly reviewed.

Outside of these support visits, residents can contact in touch Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm to receive extra advice or support.

We also maintain good links with specialist young peoples services in the area such as social services and the Croydon Support Needs Assessment and Placement Team in order to provide extra, more specialist support.

We work with people to identify their needs and to find ways to achieve their goals. The support can focus on things like housing, health, money and community activities. This is agreed in a Personal Development Plan, which we regularly review with service users.

What next?

The support received at this scheme will not cost you anything as it is paid for by the Supporting People Team at the London Borough of Croydon.
