Young Parents

Who do we help?

This specialist service in Brighton offers support and accommodation to young parents and their families.

The service supports vulnerable young women and mothers between 16 andĀ 19 years who are experiencing housing need. Support is provided to develop and improve their ability to live independently.

About the schemes

This service can supportĀ 22 families at any one time and service users can stay for up to two years. At the end of the two years they are supported to make the move into independent accommodation in the local area and can be referred to other services to receive resettlement support in order to help this transition.

Each service user is assigned a support worker who meets with them regularly, depending on what the individual needs. This is worked out at the beginning of the service and regularly reviewed.

Outside of these support visits, service users can contact in touch Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm to receive extra advice or support and there are regular drop in sessions available for all service users.

We also maintain good links with specialist services in the area such as sexual health advisors, specialist education support, health visitors & midwives and specialist courses for young parents, in order to provide extra, more specialist support.

Part of the support provided is the regular completion of an individual Personal Development Plan based on how the service user feels and what areas they would like support with.

What next?

The support received by this service will not cost you anything as it is paid for by the Supporting People Team at the Brighton & Hove City Council.
